I've also listed these on Ebay, so if you are interested, please take a look.

Diversion

Took some time this Labor Day weekend to do a few quick and fun models. The most finished of these is this -- I've had her for probably close to 8 years waiting to be painted. Patience pays off and she finally has a little color to her. Painted just for fun.

Sadly, I can't remember who makes this model, so if anyone knows, please let me know! I originally bought her to go into a Rezolution APAC force, but she's not an Aberrant model.

Just a quick update: I learned she is made by Copplestone Castings!

Sinspawn Complete

Finished the Sinspawn earlier this week, and I'm just now able to post the pictures. Skipped by a few WIP posts, mostly because he moved along so quickly. I had a lot of fun painting him, and never would have had it not been for the exchange. Now I'm off to get him in the mail where I hope he will find a good home.

Reaper Mini Exchange - WIP

If you've ever been on the Reaper Miniatures forum and watched the community, you'll know what a great and supportive place it is for painting, gaming, and socializing. Every year some dedicated members hold several miniature exchanges; usually Fall, Spring, and Summer, with perhaps one or two more jammed in. I try to take part in these at least once a year, and this year is no exception. I joined the Summer exchange, which started in May — and now it's already almost August and the deadline is fast approaching.

I had a hard time getting started on this one for some reason, and once I did find something I hoped was suitable, it took a long time to actually get it.

I chose the Pathfinder Sinspawn, as I know my recipient is a Pathfinder player and mentioned they needed bad guys.

I'm going to push this one through quickly so I can get it out next week if at all possible. Here's my beginning progress so far: opening, cleaning off flash and mold lines, and basing him/it. Most of the time so far was spent sculpting the base out of green stuff.

Stay Tuned for more progress!

Bakunin Moderators

Next up, the remaining two Moderators from the Bakunin box set. So far, these guys have been really fun to paint, and I'm looking forward to starting the remaining two models - the Zero and Sin-Eater Observant.

And a group shot of the progress thus far:

Reverend Moira

Definitely over due for a post! There have been some "life" hurdles to work through, but back to painting again. First up is the Reverend Moira from the Bakunin Starter set.

Necropolis Necromancer - Malek

Managed to finish a quick but fun figure before I return to Infinity. Here is Malek painted up to a tabletop standard. I hadn't painted with real metallics for awhile, and I struggled with them a bit. They could use a bit more shading in parts, and if time permits I'll go back and touch him up. Calling him good for now though.

Necropolis Bone Horror

Admittedly, it's been a long time since the last post. This is due to several factors, which include a broken camera, workspace issues, and a super busy schedule dealing with the reality of life outside of minis.

The Infinity Nomads are still in progress, and I'll have updated pictures soon, but I diverged a bit from the Sci-fi figures and painted up the terrible Bone Horror for fun (terrible as in he's scary). This module isn't the most popular of the Warlord line, but I think he's turned out as a success. I kept away from lots of colors and kept him pretty monochrome, which I think helps create his mood.

As always, let me know what you think!

So Far in April

Ok, I may have not been able to maintain my self imposed goal of posting every week, but I'm OK with that.  Life has been very busy with work and other obligations.

Also, I must admit...I've been pulled into a serious distraction called StarCraft 2 -- but its been tons of fun!

I have managed to get a few things done, including the Pathfinder Bones version of Seoni.

I've also continued work on the Infinity Nomads starter set, and have completed the first Moderator. She was my prototype for the set, and I copied the studio paintjob because...I liked it. True, it's hard not to like Angel Giraldez' work – He's got some amazing work and its always inspiring. And I wanted to see if I could do the Nomad bases the same way. I think it came out pretty good.

Freeblades Blackthorn Bodyguard

Managed to finish up Taneyva, the bodyguard for the Blackthorn faction. I chose to paint her up first out of the Freeblades models as it was one of my favorite sculpts. There are still some places I may go back and fix, but since this is probably just for my own use, I'm stopping on her here for now.

My first thought on initially taking her out of the package was that with such a look, I had to paint her a red head. I haven't painted red hair very often, so I liked that this would be a challenge. I built up layers from brown until I finally got something I was happy with. The legs had some roughness on the sculpt that I didn't notice until well into painting, so I let it go for now.

I tried a lot of new things out, some frustrating, some fulfilling. The biggest one was trying to use 2 brush blending. I had a lot of frustration doing this, and ended up redoing several areas, but there was some improvement. I can definitely see where the technique is faster, and as I'm such a slow painter, I really want to learn things to help speed things up.

Current WIPs

Just a quick update on this week's progress. First, I primed the Freeblades Bodyguard. I decided that since she is the first of this line I'm painting, I'd create a decorative base to celebrate her specialness, and sculpted the start of that out of green stuff.

Continued working on the Bones Seoni, dropping in the main colors, and beginning the face.

I've also got some Infinity that I just started. This is the Bakunin starter set. I'd heard a lot of good things about these sculpts, and while they do have great detail, I had some really bad mold lines and flash. Took a good while to clean them up, hence only half of them are primed here.

March News

This year is flying by faster than ever, and somehow February is already over. To celebrate the beginning of March, I've put up my first ever Ebay Auction: The Lovely Graverot.

I also seem to have painter's ADD -- I've started painting way more figures at one time than I can handle. So I'm doing a little early Spring cleaning, and clearing off my work table and leaving just 2 or 3 figures to finish before I return to the others. Here are a few I've started:

I'm excited to have gotten my first Freeblades minis in, and I'm going to paint up a few of my favorites, with the Blackthorn Bodyguard being the first. I've always liked Fantasy skirmish games, and I really like the player-centric and friendly attitude of the DGS guys.

Stay tuned for more progress!

Graverot the Ghast

This week I returned to the lovely world of the undead, and finished Graverot the Ghast. I struggled with a paint scheme for him, and ended up trying for a pinkish gray color on him. I saw someone do this on the Reaper forum, but my memory being what it is, I can't remember who. This is subtle may not be entirely apparent in the images. Once started, he was a lot of fun to work on, getting into all his musculature. This also includes my attempt to sculpt a little interest into the base, by adding some skulls.

Valeros Done

Touched up the areas that needed help the most. He's not perfect, but others are waiting. Valeros proved to be a good experiment, and I tried out everything I knew on him to see how different things would react to the Bones polymer material. My only real difficulty was that I had a hard time getting thinned paint to not pool up on parts, making it difficult to do transitions for me. Maybe with more experimentation and an adjusted technique, I can get what I want out of them.

For anything with a high level of painting, I'll probably stick with metals, but for fast jobs and tabletop quality paints, Bones have some great potential.

Pathfinder Valeros WIP

I've painted the undead bones up quickly to take their place in the Necropolis Army, but I wanted to get into a bones miniature a little more seriously, and see how my style of painting (glazing) really works on them. It wasn't entirely on purpose, but I settled on Valeros. I had been messing around with him, and he was on my painting table. He certainly has enough details on him to make him a challenge, and I started in on him.

I'm almost done, but I need to work on a few transitions and clean up the dagger and the base. Then I'm calling him good.

Vanderast - Bloodseeker

I really love the pose on this guy, and how he stands apart from the rest of the Vampires in the Necropolis faction. Let me know what you think.

Skeletons on the March

One of the larger projects I had going on was the Necropolis undead army, which is continuously ongoing it seems. I'll have to work on re-posting these, but instead of just putting the original images back up, I thought I would try and re-shoot them with a better camera. We'll see how much time that takes, and if it gets bogged down, I'll just put up some of the older shots.

Until then, here are a couple of skeletons from the Bones set to tide you over.

Rezolution Emissary

Rezolution was (and is) a cyberpunk miniatures game that burst onto the market amidst Corvus Belli's Infinity, and Privateer Press' Warmachine/Hordes. For a small company, it did an amazing job for a short while, but has now sunk into obscurity. This is too bad, as it's an excellent game — well worth a look if you like the genre.

Here is a Mercenary Emissary painted up from the game.

2014! A New Year, A New Site

Welcome to the new site everyone! The migration finally occurred, and Primordial Painting is establishing it's new home here. Starting was delayed due to busy work, and travel over the holidays, and I'm happy to ring in 2014 with the first post.

I'll post a picture to help you guess where I was this last December!

Fuyu no Fuji-sama

My hope is that with the new site, news will be easier to update, and therefore more frequent. Mostly miniature related, there may also be posts about gaming, and "life".
