About

I've been painting miniatures on and off (mostly off) for over 10 years.  During school, I had a job as an assistant manager for a mall-based game store.  I had never seen miniatures before, but this store had plenty.  There were rows upon rows of miniatures hanging up on racks for a game called Warhammer 40,000, and Warhammer Fantasy.  There were also Reaper miniatures and Ral Partha miniatures for Role-playing.  Another manager showed me how these miniatures were painted and I was hooked.  I loved how each one of these little figures told a story and the artistic nature of the hobby.  It didn’t help that hundreds of these little guys were staring at me inciting my imagination day in and day out.

My first experiences painting were full of frustrations -- the visions I had in my head, which looked just like the studio paint jobs, seemed to border on the realm of the impossible.  Time was also an issue, and it felt like as soon as I started to improve “real life” would intervene and I’d be forced into a painting break.  I was moving around quite a bit, but when I had the time, it was straight back to miniature painting.  Each time I restarted, it was like going back to the beginning, and there was even some frustration at looking at miniatures I had painted, and not being able to even reproduce my own work due to forgetting techniques or having different painting supplies.  But each time I did go back, I had fun.
I love the technical aspects to painting as well as the creative.  I’ve been self-taught and had figured out how to do various techniques on my own, such as wet-blending and glazing. Now there are so many resources on the web, it's easy to jump right in and get some pretty fantastic results.
My main goal is to continue having fun, and I’d also like to get good enough to produce high level pieces I can feel truly proud of.
This blog will talk about the painting journey, and maybe even show a game or two along the way played with minis.
